WATCH: Frankfurt Motor Show: Peugeot Fractal concept
French carmaker teams up with music producer for electric coupé concept with focus on sound.
Peugeot has released details and images of a concept car it will launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month.
The Peugeot Fractal is a futuristic electric-powered coupé designed for urban environments that also features a new version of the brand’s i-Cockpit – which combines a smaller steering wheel, dials positioned above the steering wheel so they can theoretically be read without the driver taking their eyes off the road, a high central console and a touchscreen – that has been fitted in new models since the launch of the 208.
Peugeot has now added an audio element, which utilises a 9.1.2 sound system designed to replicate a home surround sound set-up and features infra-bass speakers built into the back of each seat in order to enable the driver to ‘feel the sound’.
The company has worked with Brazilian musician and producer Amon Tobin on the system, who has also helped create a signature sound for the engine (new EU legislation in 2019 will require electric engines to emit a sound), which varies depending on whether the vehicle is accelerating, decelerating or driving at constant speed.
